Meet The Staff


Lorraine Scott
Curator
Lorraine Scott has served as Curator since 2004. Her main responsibilities include: collection management, exhibits, research, and managing the research library. Lorraine earned a BA in Anthropology from Washington State University and a MA in Public History/Museum Studies from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She has interned at the George Rowe Schoolhouse Museum in Silver Plume, Colorado and conducted archeological field work at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Before coming to the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum Lorraine worked in the collections department of The Museum of Flight in Seattle.
Rick Chandler
Facilities Coordinator
Rick Chandler has been the Exhibit Specialist and Facilities Coordinator at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum since 2001. Rick graduated from Cornell University and UCLA. In 2001 he completed a certificate program in Museum Studies at the University of Washington and in 2003 he added another certificate in Project Management. Other museum work experience includes stints at the American Museum of Natural History, Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Smithsonian Institution and the Whale Museum at Friday Harbor.
Katy Curtis
Outreach Coordinator
Katy Curtis has been coordinating docents and school visits since 2007. Katy is also a mediator and consultant. Katy received her BA from Humboldt University, and her mediation certification from the Institute for the Study of Alternative Dispute Resolution. She has trained staff and students in leadership and communication skills in public and non-profit organizations including UC Berkeley, McCullum Youth Court and the National Institute for Art and Disability. She is passionate about fostering cross-cultural understanding and respect. Katy is a native Bainbridge Islander. She and her husband, Brad Schabert, moved back to Bainbridge in 2005. She enjoys all she learns about the history of Bainbridge Island and the Northwest from the museum and volunteers.
Henry R. (Hank) Helm
Interim Executive Director
Henry R. (Hank) Helm is the Interim Executive Director for the Society. After graduating from the University of Washington, Hank spent thirty three years in a mechanical equipment distributorship as salesman, sales manager, president and finally, consultant. Hank was hired by the Society in 2006 as the Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper. He has lived on Bainbridge Island since 1969 with his wife Lynn. He served on the Bainbridge Island Park District Board of Directors and on the Bainbridge Island School District Board. Hank is also a director and secretary of the Executive Committee of the Rhododendron Species Foundation.
